Freshers Party
Every Year, SCI organizes "Freshers (Orientation) Party" with the aim of to provide a warm and friendly welcome to incoming international graduate students. UMD has a high intake of international students and this event helps to set a platform where the students can interact and communicate with other fellow graduate students and share their culture and ideas. This program includes a range of events including games, performances, Indian Dinner and DJ dance floor. The current graduate students share their experiences and advice to make the new students comfortable with the new environment and help to ease the transition of students from their home country to UMD. SCI invites all new incoming international graduate students and other graduate students to be a part of this orientation party. This even has been a huge success in the past years with an attendance of over 200 and this is what motivates us to make the event bigger and better each year.
This program is intended for all incoming international graduate students who are interested in interacting with other fellow students and knowing about people diverse cultures. It is major attraction not only for new incoming students but also for current graduate students. In face we take efforts in promoting this event to diverse audiences and invite them for the same. We take great pleasure in sharing Indian culture with all the new incoming students. Friends and family of students are also cordially invited.
Organized annually at the beginning of every Fall Semester and has seen increasing attendance and participation each year. We have been fortunate to have received a highly positive response from Indians and non-Indian graduate students attending this event.
